Apart from the the overall better user experience, I believe this change allows us to remove the logic to determine the version for HTTP headers. We added this logic for two special cases:
uv run pytestresolves the package version correctly.pip install git+url. Verified that this installs the package with the correct version, as we now respect PEP 621.
