Release Notes

HEC’s Flood Damage Reduction Analysis (HEC-FDA) software development team is proud to announce the release and certification of Version 2.0 of the HEC-FDA software, an effort achieved through collaboration between HEC as the model proponent and software developer and the Flood Risk Management Planning Center of Expertise (FRM-PCX) as the certifying office. HEC-FDA is USACE's only tool certified to carry out inland flood risk assessment in support of flood risk management recommendations and has supported 49 chief's reports in the last 10 years in which HEC-FDA was used by USACE project delivery teams to identify more than $5 billion in annual benefits that justified nearly $44 billion in flood risk management investment recommendations.

The new version of HEC-FDA brings along a fresh user interface built using modern software architecture with modern UI functionality such as copy and paste, a modernized consequences engine with several algorithm enhancements and the capability to process 2D hydraulic modeling and other georeferenced datasets, and a risk engine that closely replicates the logic in HEC-FDA Version 1.4.3. Case studies suggest that moderate differences in results can occur between versions, typically less than 20% difference in study area mean expected annual damage.

The HEC-FDA team has developed a wealth of tech transfer content and other user support services to support the rollout of the new software. Please leverage the below resources for getting help with the new version. Please also look out for invites for webinars in which the newly certified version will be introduced, and announcements for additional tech transfer publications from the HEC-FDA development team.
