Subsystem
gRPC

Problem Description
We are starting to support gRPC. This is the first step called "I'm just glad it compiles and runs".

Solution
The implementation will live in grpc-release branch until I'm not ashamed of it.
The release will cycle will be separate from the main branch, and basically consist of iterative QoL changes.

I'm also going to cherry pick f100dd0 (#262) into release-0.5.0.
