RIMMF: Expression qualifiers #10
Comments
The RIMMF developers agree that the entity index and the R-Tree list for the Jane-athon r-ball has highlighted the usefulness of changing the default qualifier for Expression AAPs from Content Type to Language and Content Type, in that order. Instructions re. citation order would be very useful for consistency, either in the RDA instructions or in an RDA application profile. |
I think the default of "Text" can be changed to language simply by editing your AAP (Authorized Access point) profile for Expression. Start the program. Check Language of Expression Thats it. Add some records. If you want to also add Content Type, then leave it checked. If you want to change the order, drag and drop the elements into the order you want the AAP composed in. For example, you could drag Language above Content Type to get a heading like Creator. Work. German. Text. |
It is good to know how it can be done, in RIMMF, but it would still be helpful to know what the community thinks is the most logical order to use for the 4 expression qualifiers--for display and for sorting. I'm thinking: In addition, the steps in Richard's comment will change the default qualifiers and order of qualifiers for new records, but we will also need a way to change the order of the qualifiers in existing records, if possible. |
RIMMF uses "Text" as the default qualifier to identify an Expression. Should we use Language instead? LC does not use the language to qualify the original expression. What will the impact be on matching to NACO headings, if we start doing this in a MARC environment?
There seems to be a good use case that all Expression AAPs should be qualified by Language and Content type, in anticipation of original language and translated texts and audio. If both are used (by default), then would a citation order be useful to make consistent AAPs? (Perhaps not in the RDA instructions, but in an application profile?)
The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
