### Buses
Coventry Railway Station has very frequent buses to campus through the express 12X bus or the slower 11 bus (both operated by National Express). These can be caught from the [Rail Station Bridge stop](https://goo.gl/maps/YAqPpQXVXqzpKPz76), just outside the station (try to leave through the new bit). The 11 can also be caught from the [Station Interchange](https://goo.gl/maps/Lu3GGVELEek24b7f8), through the underpass tunnel. The Station has recently been refurbished, so don’t necessarily rely on Google Street View or older information.

### Arriving by Car

Warwick University is on the south-western edge of Coventry (Post Code: CV4 7AL). There is a lot of parking available on campus, although not all of it is visitor accessible. Check [this map](https://warwick.ac.uk/services/carparks/where/where_can_i_park_-Jan_2022v2.pdf) and [this webpage](https://warwick.ac.uk/services/carparks/general_parking) for more information. These car parks can get quite busy during the day, but less so on the weekend. The car parking rules on campus can be a bit tricky, so be careful.

### Getting Around Campus

The campus is quite compact and well signposted, so walking through shouldn’t be too hard. The SU Atrium (where we’ll be) is a particularly quick walk from the Bus Interchange and contains multiple places to eat, with a fair few in the surrounding buildings as well. When navigating around campus, we recommend the [Interactive Campus Map](https://campus.warwick.ac.uk/?cmsid=2080).

## Eating around Campus
**[SU](https://www.warwicksu.com/venues-events/eating-drinking/)** Nothing exciting but cheap. There is the pub (The Dirty Duck) and cafe (Curiositea). Also run by the SU is Rootes Grocery Store it stocks Co-Op items (expensive).

**In & around the SU**: Curiositea (cafe), Dirty Duck (pub), Pret A Manger, Bar Fusion

**On Campus**: Benugo (Arts Centre, fancy), most of the rest are closed on the weekend

**Cannon Park**: Subway, Greggs, Costa Coffee, Jacket Potatoes Van

**Other Near Campus**: Phantom Coach (pub), Varsity (pub)

You have to go quite a bit further to get to much else, but Coventry Centre or Leamington has plenty of options (both an easy bus away).
**[University](https://warwick.ac.uk/services/retail/eat-drink/)** Slightly more expensive (but still cheap) and nicer. Are a bit further away. Their opening times can be found at [https://warwick.ac.uk/services/retail/openingtimes/](https://warwick.ac.uk/services/retail/openingtimes/).

#### Step 1 - Find your game!

Pick a game you want to play endlessly and **understand at a deeper level!** Speedrunning is all about optimising every aspect of your gameplay.
Something you love? Something that’s short and sweet? Maybe even a game that’s never been run before...

Some games have a obvious end, some do not! Check speedrun.com for existing categories if you aren’t sure what goals exist for your favourite game.

Whether it’s a phone camera pointed at your screen or a pro stream setup, **give us a video!** We prefer a start-to-finish complete run, since it gives us an idea of your performance on stream. But don't worry, we know you'll improve!

There are many screen recording utilities, use whatever you are familiar with. If you don’t know where to start, OBS is very popular!

Recording capabilities on consoles are variable (to put it nicely), and some computers cannot handle it as well as the game, so **don’t worry about the recording quality of this run - this is just for us organizers.**
If you are recording a console, HDMI capture cards are useful -- you don't need a fancy one, though we recommend one with HDMI passthrough. Alternatively, many consoles allow streaming straight to Twitch -- just send us the VOD.

Started in 2016, Warwick's Awesome Speedruns and Demos (WASD) is a 2-day speedrunning event held annually at the University of Warwick. It is the largest student-run speedrunning event in the UK. We've showcased a wide variety of games from nailbitingly difficult ones such as Getting Over It and Dark Souls III to living room favourites such as Mario Kart Wii and Splatoon 3. As well as these, we've run some less standard titles such as Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear To The Rescue, Geoguessr and Deathsmiles IIX Makai no Merry Christmas. We also dabble in the insane! These runs include Celeste on DK Bongos, Super *Monkey's* Ball and one person using 2 controllers to play Cuphead. WASD will be returning on {{ event_date_range }}.

The event raises money for SpecialEffect, a charity which develops and provides assistive technology to help people with disabilities to play games.
