Using website rules

Website Rules are used to link a scrollbar to a specific website, allowing you to fully customize your browsing experience. When visiting a website that has a Website Rule, the scrollbar that you have set will be used instead of the default scrollbar.

Adding Website Rules

When you are on the website you would like to create a Website Rule for, click the Custom Scrollbars toolbar button. This will show you what scrollbar is currently being used on that website. You can select the scrollbar you would like to use on that website and press the Use on this website button.

NOTE: If the toolbar menu does not show the Use on this website button, a Website Rule cannot be applied to that page. See Pages this extension cannot modify for more information.

Website Rules can also be manually added from the Website Rules tab on the add-on options page. This page will list all of the Website Rules that are currently added and you can press the Add button to create a new Website Rule.

On the dialog that appears, enter the Domain that you want the rule to apply to. Do not include any pages or the protocol (for example, http://). If you are creating a Website Rule for the subdomains of a website, check the Subdomains Only option (see the Subdomain Website Rules section). Finally, select the scrollbar that you want to use on that website and press the Save button.

Subdomain Website Rules

Subdomain rules are special Website Rules that apply to any subdomain of a specific website. For example, a subdomain rule for example.com would apply to www.example.com, abc.example.com and test.example.com.

These Website Rules can only be created, modified or removed on the Website Rules tab of the add-on options page.

A regular Website Rule will override a subdomain Website Rule. For example, if Rule A is for www.example.com and Rule B is for the subdomains of example.com, Rule A will be used if you visit www.example.com.

When visiting a website that is included in a subdomain Website Rule, this is indicated by an informational message on the Custom Scrollbars toolbar button menu.

Editing Website Rules

Website Rules can be modified using the Custom Scrollbars toolbar button, using the same process described in the Adding Website Rules section.

The Website Rules tab on the add-on options page also allows you to edit rules. To change the scrollbar linked to a Website Rule, press the Change Scrollbar button next to the rule that you want to change. From the dialog that appears, select the scrollbar you want to use and press the Save button.

To edit more than one Website Rule at once, use the checkmark next to the rules that you want to edit and press the Change Scrollbar of Selected button located under the search bar. You can then select the scrollbar that you want to use from the drop-down menu and save the changes.

Removing Website Rules

Website Rules can be removed using the Custom Scrollbars toolbar button. The process is the same as adding a Website Rule, but you can select Use Default from the drop-down menu and then press the Use on this website button. This will automatically remove the Website Rule.

The Website Rules tab on the add-on options page also allows you to remove rules. To delete a Website Rule, press the Remove button next to the rule that you want to remove.

To remove multiple Website Rules at once, use the checkmark next to the rules that you want to edit and press the Delete Selected button located under the search bar.

Advanced Options

On the Website Rules tab of the add-on options page, there are some advanced settings can be adjusted to further custom your browsing experience. To access these settings, click on the Advanced Settings header to show the hidden settings.

For most users, the default settings are fine.

Embedded websites

Some websites embed other websites within them. Displaying a website inside of a website can cause some conflicts depending on the specific website rules that you have configured in the Custom Scrollbars settings.

For more information on this setting, see Embedded websites.

Local files

If you open locally saved files in your internet browser, such as images or HTML pages, you may wish to control what scrollbar is used when viewing these files. By default, the default scrollbar will be used for these files, but you can adjust the scrollbar used from the drop-down menu.
