Following discussions in the Special Purpose Operating Systems (SPOS) work group within the Runtime TAG, we've introduced a new “Runtime/Operating Systems” sub-category. This replaces the previous classification, which didn't accurately represent the projects within the group.

The updated sub-category will better align with the SPOS WG projects and accommodate other projects that may join the foundation in the future.

This version is concise and directly conveys the motivation and future scope of the change. Let me know if you’d like to adjust any details!

Do we have more than just 2? I'd prefer to just call this "Runtime Systems"

@caniszczyk in the SPOS WG there are more participants but I'd rather mention that we have the new category and let them move if they want to or stay if they prefer the current category

For now there is just Kairos and Flatcar officially, but there are others (Talos, Google Container OS, Bottlerocket, etc) that could potentially be added. Having this recognized as an official subcategory could even help encourage some of these projects to pursue becoming official CNCF projects.

Are there other non-operating systems you have in mind with calling it Runtime Systems?

For reference, we have a few projects listed in the SPOS charter: https://tag-runtime.cncf.io/wgs/spos/charter/#open-source-projects

@castrojo @caniszczyk just a friendly reminder about this change to see if we can integrate it in the landscape or if there's any other change needed. Thanks!
