Mental Judge Tower

Mental Judge Tower is a variant of Magic that combines aspects of Judge Tower and Mental Magic into a format which can be played with just a card search engine. Players must maintain the entire game state in their heads, or receive penalties.

Rules

The Judge Tower rules are modified as follows:

To start the game, first agree on a list of cards, then put a randomly sorted query of these cards into a card search engine. The results represent the shared library. Any form of top-of-library manipulation such as drawing a card uses the next card(s) on this list. Shuffling the library or part of it causes the cards to remain in this same order. When searching for a card, copy the query into a new tab, add any additional filters for the search, and find the first card still in the library.

Due to the added difficulty of maintaining the game state without any physical cards, players do not immediately receive a game loss penalty. Instead, if a rule is broken, the the offending card leaves the game and goes into the shame pile of the offending player. A game may be played until a certain total number of cards has been moved to shame piles, by eliminating players whose shame piles accumulate a certain number of cards, or until a certain page on the search engine results is reached.

When using mtg.wtf or Lore Seeker as the search engine, to copy the library order onto other devices, move to the next page and then back using the pagination links at the bottom, and then copy the current URL from the address bar. That URL will then contain the random seed that was used to shuffle the deck. Alternatively, the Lore Seeker bot commands %mjt, %cmjt, or %fmjt can be used to generate these links.
