Storing words in their Proto-Germanic form is an interesting proposition. For instance, both cyning and cyng would be recognized as forms of *kuningaz.
There are some problems, though:
- Some words were borrowed from Latin (sēricum > seolc)
- Some words were borrowed from Old Norse
- Some words have an uncertain origin
- Some words exhibit metathesis (*frustaz > frost or forst?)
- Some words exhibit haplology (*kuningaz > cyning > cyng)
- Some words exhibit other complex and rare changes (PWGmc *pligiþu > pliht)
