Localization guide

The simple way (for people unfamiliar with git)

  1. Download and extract latest zipped Policeman sources
  2. Find out your language code (here is a language codes table)
  3. Copy /src/chrome/locale/en-US/ to /src/chrome/locale/<Your language code>
  4. Edit and Translate /src/chrome/locale/<Your language code>/policeman.properties (it's a plain text file)
    • leave left-hand key = parts intact
    • note that special %1$S (%2$S etc.) parts will be replaced depending on context (it may be a number, domain name or something like that), so when original string contains N of these, your translation must have N of them as well
    • take comments into account (comments start with #)
    • the file has to be utf-8-encoded (any modern text editor will take care of that for you, I believe notepad.exe will not)
  5. Rulesets are located at /src/defaults/rulesets/, they are pretty straightforward to translate too, just copy an existing localization block and change the language code and strings
  6. Send your work to [email protected] or comment on this issue (github account required)
