@msalle, @ellert, @maarten-litmaath: A happy new year to you all! Though this change was ready before Christmas 2023, I didn't manage to actually test the results on CentOS 7, Rocky Linux 8 and openSUSE Leap 15.5 until now. But it works OK on those OSes: openSUSE Leap 15.5

I'll approve it, although I haven't gone (and cannot go) through all the changes, but the fact that the testing matrix looks good should be sufficient at this point.
Argument names can only be omitted since gcc-11, see https://gcc.gnu.org/pipermail/gcc-cvs/2020-October/336068.html Needed for builds on CentOS 7 and CentOS Stream 8 and Rocky Linux 8.
