Great package, but from what I understand, this is not currently python3 compatible.

Is there any way to get this in python3 or any equivalent package that would work in python3?

Not sure if this is still maintained?
I just created a version that works on python3 (I use ROS noetic):
https://github.com/herzig/hrl-kdl/tree/noetic
It's not tested thoroughly, only tested FK & IK calculations so far but I think it should work fine.
