Peak smoothing
The smoothing window parameter is a critical setting in mass spectrometry analysis by IDSL.IPA that can have a significant impact on the accuracy and precision of peak-picking results. The optimal smoothing window parameter can vary depending on the specific mass spectrometry techniques and runtime of LC/GC platforms. To optimize this parameter, it's essential to consider the scan rate of the mass spectrometer and count only MS1 scans. The smoothing window parameter should be set based on the peak width of the peak of interest. Setting the smoothing window between 1-2 times the peak width can effectively reduce noise while preserving peak shape and signal intensity. However, using a higher smoothing window parameter can merge adjacent peaks while using a smaller parameter may not sufficiently mitigate peak jaggedness.
