v2 is generally a safe expansion on top of v1 - ipuz.org notes that some fields have been deprecated, though the only explicit mention of "deprecated" on the v2 doc relates to a field in Sudoku puzzles. There may be some additional features that aren't yet supported, but these can always be added later. See mrichards42#172

@crosswordnexus I thought I saw a comment about a v2 ipuz that xword can't load as v1? |
I was wrong about this. It's a v2 iPuz file that doesn't load in Xword for unrelated reasons. I can make an example file and open a second issue. |
