Snipstory: Craft with History

Snipstory is an interactive web application which children can use to discover history through personal stories. This web application is going to be used in classrooms (4th - 6th year of primary school) all over Flanders.

History is sometimes hard to grasp for children. They often see the bigger picture but forget that history is a story of people. So, instead of starting with the bigger picture, we chose to start with the personal stories. So, we worked on some biographies of real people to make them accessible for children. The stories are chopped up into manageable pieces and we mixed in some quizzes and fun facts.

After reading about a historical figure, children are encouraged to make an arts & crafts project about what they’ve read. With the personal stories these children will have a starting point for their arts & crafts project. To help the children decide what they could do, Snipstory offers suggestions of stuff children can do to creatively engage with the content on Snipstory. The arts & crafts project will be made in class under supervision of the teacher.

After they finished their creation, they can upload their creations (Snippets) on Snipstory to share them with the world!
