Become a sponsor to Daniel Hansson
Hi there,
Some backround
My name is Daniel Hansson. A typical Swede, born and raised. Father to one daughter, and married since 2009. Living on the countryside in the south of Sweden.
How I became an active Github member
It wasn't until around 2012-2013, as a heavy Dropbox user, that I had reason to find something that could "set me free". Privacy and integrity was, and had always been important to me, but I wasn't really aware how much it really meant until I started digging for alternatives - reading about what the big companies really do with your data and privacy. That's when I found @ownCloud and I fell in love.
To install ownCloud you needed to know a bit of Linux preferably, as it wasn't running that good on Windows (they actually dropped Windows server support later on anyway) - and I, didn't even know what sudo
was.
I got help installing my first ownCloud VM back in 2013, and there's where it all started. I opened up my Github account, made bug reports, feature requests, started Tech and Me to share my knowledge (little, but at least something) as a way of giving back to the community as I didn't have any coding skills at all.
The ownCloud VM
I started to work on a VM for ownCloud in 2014 which I shared in forums and similar as I figured there must be people in the same situation as myself - a newbie that wanted the benefits of self-hosting. It actually got popular quite quickly and things developed to become a popular way of installing ownCloud on - so popular I had to get new server hardware to be able to handle the load of all the downloads.
Which later became Nextcloud
As you may know Nextcloud was founded in 2016, and since then I've been the main developer of their VM. That's what I still do, and plan to continue with. The VM can be downloaded for free here: https://github.com/nextcloud/vm/releases. You can also use the scripts to install it yourself.
I also provide VMs that you can pay for to get fixed sizes, instead of donating and get nothing: https://shop.hanssonit.se/
Why should you sponsor me?
With your sponsorship, I could spend even more time on my projects - and in turn give you an even better experience with the stuff I publish. Sadly I almost never get any donations, I think I can sum it up to about $400 ever since year 2016. I thought I'd try this way so that people that use the scripts and VM for free can show their gratitude by a sponsorship.
Help me helping you, become a sponsor today. Thanks! :)
