FNFVR 8.0.0 - Week 6 and COMPLETE REWORK

After going through development hell for the better part of 7 months - here's the Week 6 Update!
Week 6 and a TON, and I MEAN A FUCKING TON OF CHANGES oh my god I'm exhausted

I'm not even bothering with a comparison changelog, here's the goods:

  • The PCVR version of FNFVR is now a Benjine mod! Don't know what the Benjine is? It's my custom FNF engine! The README (once it's up) will explain how to install it.
  • The Quest version no longer sucks! The only difference is that we had to hack faces into the game. Honestly it's on par with the PCVR version if you run it at 120hz.
  • Every menu has been revamped! The super interactive Main Menu was cool, but way too hard to upkeep and was very buggy. Pausing now works. The options menu isn't a complete mess. The combo numbers are truer to FNF. The health is flat, unlike the Earth. The death screen is no longer a hacked-together pile of trash. You get the idea.
  • Gameplay has been revamped! Hitting notes should feel way better. Will never be as good as the controller, but at least it works. Speaking of...
  • Partial keyboard / controller support! By virtue of the Benjine existing. I have no idea why you guys wanted it so badly, but here you go.
  • The hands are better and more responsive! Now it comes in two flavors: BF's "original" hands, and the "accurate" hands for those of you with knuckle controllers. Also the hands are way smaller and fit much better to your actual hand.

Other noteworthy changes:

  • So much optimization! Including:
    • Week 4. Completely changed, and for good reason: it was so goddamn laggy. Too much data in one file.
    • Week 5. Mostly the same, but with less stuff.
    • Week 2. It finally got the low-up it deserved: a level contained in a single model. Plus, the lightning effect has been reworked (and is way the fuck cooler imo)!
  • All characters are now animated by people who aren't me. Dad and Pico have finally got proper animations (thanks to VibaPop and Toman)!

Notable issues:

  • On Quest, the snow in Winter Horrorland has shadows for some reason. Idk why.
  • Weegeepie has been removed until further notice. Nothing against the guy, nor was he cancelled. The only reason he's not there is that I want to prepare a solution for the App Lab so that copyrighted characters (not owned by the Funkin' Crew) don't appear in-game.

I could go on and on, but you should just play the goddamn thing
If there's bugs I don't give a shit atm I am about to collapse (but please do report them here on GitHub)

Have fun!

Friday Night Funkin' VR version 6.0.0, also known as the Menu Update, has been released!

Changelog:

  • Intro sequence, main menu, and story mode have been completely revamped!
  • Freeplay mode has been added!
  • Options (initial version) has been added!
  • Credits menu has been added!
  • Dedicated save file, which saves player preferences and scores
  • Start-up screen added that allows players having trouble with their height to change it
  • You can now exit from both the pause and death menus
  • Most asynchronous events have been converted from using yield statements to using signals so that quitting the level mid-song (above point) is possible
  • The conductor's song time process has been changed to more closely resemble other rhythm games, meaning pausing is no longer as destructive to the timing of the song (more specifically, it does recover after a bit of stumbling)
  • Step zone has been visually changed again, rotating the notes and lanes to resemble a layout similar to Guitar Hero
  • Ghost tapping has been re-implemented in the step zone
  • Week 1 map has been revamped
  • Spooky Kids and Monster animations have been redone
  • Blammed warnings no longer flash and are more helpful
  • Weegeepie song moved from Story Mode to Freeplay for the time being

Also, the source code has been released! (Which is obvious since you're here lol)
Have fun with it! The next update will be Week 5, so see ya then 😄
