About Last.fm Tagger

Last.fm Tagger is an OS X app that allows you to apply tags from Last.fm as genres in iTunes. The app, written in RubyCocoa by Wes Rogers, is a successor to the RubyOSA based Last.fm Tagger script.

Philosophy

The goal of Last.fm Tagger is to make it easy and fun to add genres to your artists. No plans are being made to extend this app to include cover art or any other metadata.

Usage

Simply create a playlist in iTunes named “lastfmtagger”, add tracks to it then open the app. The tracks will be read into a table listing the artist name and current genre set. Click on an artist to retrieve tags from last.fm sorted by popularity. Click “Tag Artist” to set the genre of the specified artist. All tracks with the selected artist name will be tagged with the selected genre.

Future

  • Integration with discogs API.
  • Make use of grouping field for more granular genres (i.e. Genre: Rock; Grouping: Progressive Rock).
