Games Not Using Generated Events in Windows

UAC Workaround

One common problem that Windows users have experienced is that some games will not use the events that are generated by AntiMicro. The most common reason for this is because of User Account Control (UAC) in Windows. There are a number of Windows games that require Administrative privileges in order to run. One example of a game in my Steam library that does this is Mass Effect. By default, AntiMicro is set to run with the privileges of the user that is running it so the program will typically not have Administrative privileges. This will allow events generated by AntiMicro to be usable on the desktop but they will not be usable in such games.

In order to work around this issue, you have to set AntiMicro to run as the Administrator in order for the game to be able to use the generated events. One way to enable this functionality is within Explorer. Right click antimicro.exe and select Properties. From the properties window, go to Compatibility -> Privilege Level and check the option Run this program as an administrator and click the OK button. The next time you run the program, a UAC window will appear asking if you want to allow the program to make changes to your computer. Click the Yes button and then the main application window will appear and the program will then have administrative privileges.

Anti-Cheat Software

Another reason that some games might not be able to use the events generated by AntiMicro is because a game might have anti-cheat software enabled. One such game that has this problem is the game Magicka: Wizard Wars. If a game has anti-cheat software enabled, the only way to use AntiMicro for controller support is to find some way to disable the anti-cheat software from running. This is not encouraged as doing this successfully will likely get your account banned from a game.
