This is a WIP application for Google Summer of Code. Even if we've passed the deadline, it's good to keep this maintained for next time.
The latest instructions (as of 2015) for GSoC Mentoring Organizations can be found here
- Description of ocaml
- What we hope to gain
- Our organization has not directly participated in GSoC in the past.
- We have applied in the past (WHEN?)
- Our code is open source under the Q Public License.
- Our idea list is can be found at https://github.com/ocaml/ocaml.org/wiki/GSoC-ideas
- Our main development mailing list is [email protected]
- Our IRC channel is irc://irc.freenode.net/ocaml
- Our backup administrator will be X
- To select our mentors, we chose members of the OCaml community who have good familiarity with their parts of the codebase, and who have enough free time to provide assistance to students. (etc)
- While we hope that students stay for the full term, we realize that it's possible that some may drop out halfway through the summer. Such students will not receive a passing grade, though our mentors will do their best throughout the summer to make sure whatever code was created is in good enough shape to be integrated into our codebase.
- Our mentors are serious members of the community and therefore are extremely unlikely to disappear. What is more likely to happen is that they will run out of time to mentor. In this case, we have a backup mentor who has volunteered to take over if needed.
- We require that any student who wants to participate must first pick a small job from our todo list at https://github.com/ocamllabs/compiler-hacking/wiki/Things-to-work-on. Additionally, we require that our students blog regularly about their progress on their personal blogs (which will be linked to www.ocaml.org). We also strongly encourage our students to maintain a constant presence on our IRC channel, so that any difficulties can be resolved.
- Would be helpful if we had an organization vouching for us
- No, we're not vouching for anyone.
- We encourage students to keep contributing though involvement with the community. (etc)
