SHF Business Goals, Rules, and Decisions

Ashley Engelund edited this page Feb 18, 2017 · 5 revisions

This is where we'll record SHF goals, the 'business rules,' and decisions that have been made about how things will or won't happen. (Or should or shouldn't happen.)

To start with, it's important that we just get stuff recorded here. Formatting and organizing it is secondary.

Recording decisions -- why something is or isn't done, why one approach is taken over some other -- is important. Otherwise, those same questions will come up later and time and energy will have to be spent all over again figuring it out. (And the likelyhood for making mistakes is big.)

If something is an open question, note it. (We'll figure out a standard way of noting something is a question.)

If at all possible or relevant, include a link to PivotalTracker or a document or even code.

Goals for the SHF-Project:

  • Track memberships for the SHF non-profit organization
  • provide value to members by promoting them and their companies on the SHF website
    • providing value to members mean members will find it worthwhile to continue paying to be a member of SHF!
  • provide value to "visitors": people that are not members, that are browsing the SHF website, looking for ethical dog-industry/dog service companies that can help them
    • The main reason people ("visitors") come to the SHF website is to find dog-related services that can help them.
    • Sweden has a growing group of retired people that are getting dogs after their children have grown and moved away. (Pensioners / "empty-nesters" ). This is a group / demographic to be very aware of. Want to be sure that the site is easy for that group to use

Searching for Companies:

  • Visitors want to be able to find a company that is nearby. They may start out searching for a company that provides the services they want (the business categories) that is within a certain distance.
  • Visitors may want to adjust the distance. Ex: if they didn't find enough companies within 10km, they may want to adjust the distance to search for companies within 15km.
    • We may want to sort companies by distance (closest are at the top of the list)
  • It is important to present the results on a map and being able to search by using a map (ex: visually / graphically in addition to or instead of a text-based list)

Applying for a membership in SHF

membership number

This is a unique identifier assigned to every SHF member. Currently, it's assigned manually when a SHF admin approves an applicant for membership. SHF-project should assign it automatically in the future.

Companies

Org. Nr. (Swedish Company Number)

These are unique identifying numbers assigned by the government. Some member 'companies' have an org. nr. that is actually for an individual. The gem we use, orgnummer seems to be a bit buggy when telling us whether the number belongs to an individual or not. Since we don't reliably know if the number is for an individual or company, we don't display the number publicly. Admins can see the number so that they can use it to look up information when determining if an applicant should be a member.

When they're considered "complete" or not. And what "complete" means.

When someone fills out their application for SHF membership, they need to enter the unique organization number (sveriges org. nr.) for their company. If/when they are approved for membership, then they can provide details about their company -- the name, location, etc. (No need to provide the information if they are not approved. The org. nr. and documentation they provide is sufficient for the SHF admins to look up information.)

Until a company name and region have been provided, the information for a company is not complete and the company will not be displayed on the website.
