Elements of the cabinet

Dance Floor

Or simply “the floor”. A platform that detects the player’s feet like an infrared touch panel.

Buttons

Used to control the menu. There are 4 directional buttons and a Start button.

Elements of the gameplay screen

Highway

The area at the center of the screen, on which Notes appear from afar. 16 Lanes wide.

BGA

The music video accompanying the music. Short for “Background Animation”.

Types of Notes

Step

A single Note. Step on the corresponding area at the right time.

Hold

A Step with a body trailing after. Step and keep your foot on the body.

Slide

The type of Hold where its body slopes laterally.

Skid

A horizontal bend in the middle or the end of a Hold’s body. Quickly slide your foot in the indicated direction at the right time.

In Ched, there are two types of Skids: Simple and Complex. Using Complex Skids, you can place a Skid directly following a Slide.

Down

The note that looks like a yellow arch. Push your center of gravity downward at the right time.

Jump

The note that looks like a blue-green hurdle. Lift your feet off the Floor at the right time.

Types of patterns

Running Man

“RM” for short. Consists of continued alternating Holds with sideways Skids.

T-step

“TS” for short. With one foot, step on the Steps, while with other, twist the ankle to move laterally.

The normal T-step has you moving in the direction of the stepping foot, while the Reverse T-step has you moving in the direction of the planted foot.

Crab Step

“CS” for short. While both feet are on the Floor, twist both ankles in and out to move laterally.

Spongebob

“SB” for short. Consists of alternating Holds with inward-facing Skids.

Crossover

“XO” for short. Any pattern where a Left Foot Note appears to the right of a Right Foot Note, and vice versa. Has a bunch of variants.

Charleston

“CT” for short. While twisting the ankle, step on alternating feet at the same place or slightly crossed over.

Half Time and Double Time

A pattern that appears at half and double the normal speed, respectively. Used, for example, as in “HT RM” or “DT XO”.

Miscellaneous

Style Level (SL)

StyleStar rates difficulties of charts using SL. SL1 to SL9 are equivalent to DANCERUSH's Lv1 to Lv9. SL10 to SL15 are equivalent to different tiers of DANCERUSH's Lv10.
