Description

The Demographic Summary Report details client demographics, household types, chronic at entry, high acuity, unsheltered and active in Street Outreach, newly entering homelessness, and outcomes. This report can be used to understand:

  • The basic demographic information and household composition of clients enrolled in a project.
  • The number of clients and households that are chronically homeless at the time of entry.
  • The number of clients and households that have two or more indefinite and impairing disabling conditions, but do not meet the definition of chronically homeless.
  • The characteristics of clients that are newly entering homelessness. Including: household composition, high acuity, and chronically homeless. Basic outcomes: Average length of stay, exit destination, and returns to homelessness.

Universe

The Demographic Summary report uses the Live Universe Selection.

Results

1. Viewing Reports

The report populates results upon navigation to the report. The total number of Unique Clients and Households is displayed at the top of the report. The results are displayed as tables in the report and are available for download in Excel or PDF.

2. Demographic Breakdowns

Demographic breakdowns are displayed for:

  • Adults by Gender - Count and Average Age
  • Children by Gender - Count and Average Age
  • Age Breakdowns - Count and Percentage
  • Gender Breakdowns - Count and Percentage
  • Gender and Age Breakdowns - Count and Percentage
  • Race Breakdowns - Count and Percentage
  • Ethnicity Breakdowns - Count and Percentage

3. Household Types

Household types are calculated by the count of Heads of Households in any enrollment overlapping the report range. Each HoH is only counted once per household type.

4. Chronic at Entry

Count of clients and households that meet the HUD definition of chronically homeless at entry for their earliest enrollment in the chosen universe overlapping the reporting range.

5. High Acuity

Count of clients and households that do not meet the chronic definition, but have two or more indefinite and impairing disabling conditions and have 2 or more episodes of homelessness (including the current episode) in the past 3 years.

6. Unsheltered and Active in Street Outreach

Count of clients and households that are enrolled in Street Outreach and have had at least one current living situation collected during the reporting period.

7. Newly Entering Homelessness

Count of clients and households that had no homeless activity in the selected Homeless History Lookback (ex. two years prior) prior to the report start and had an entry into the chosen universe during the report range. Results for Newly Entering Households include breakdowns by Household Type, Chronic Homeless status, and High Acuity.

8. Outcomes

Outcomes include the Average Length of Stay in Homeless System, Exit Destinations, and Returns to Homelessness.

  • Average Length of Stay - Average of the count of the distinct dates for each client in homeless projects that overlap the report universe.
  • Returns to Selected Universe (1-2 years after exiting homelessness) - Count of clients who had no homeless services within the year prior to the report range, but had an enrollment in the 1-2 years prior.
  • Returns to Selected Universe ( <1 years after exiting homelessness) - Count of clients who had no homeless services within 30 days prior to the report range, but had an enrollment in the year prior.

9. Download

The report can be downloaded as a PDF or Excel file. Breakdown by CoC is displayed as separate columns into existing tables in the report download, when CoCs are chosen in the Universe Selection.

Calculation Notes

  • Household types are calculated by the count of Heads of Households in any enrollment overlapping the report range. Each HoH is only counted once per household type.

FAQs

  1. What is the difference between Child-Only and Youth-Only Households?
    • Child Only captures households under the age of 18.
    • Youth Only captures households between ages 18-24.
  2. What types of responses fall into the "Other" Exit Destination category?
    • The HUD Data Standards are used to define what responses fall into each category. Refer to the Standards for a complete list.
  3. Is there is any duplication between the Chronic category and the High Acuity category?
    • The High Acuity category only captures non-Chronic individuals, so there should be no duplication.
