Agenda

  • capgen.py progress, transition to capgen.py

capgen.py process, transition to capgen.py

  • Process forward with getting capgen ready for the UFS
    • One DTC deliverable is to transition NCAR developments of the CCPP framework to the UFS
    • Our current timeline foresees to transition to capgen by the end of June 2021, we will miss that (Louisa knows)
    • How is capgen used currently in the NCAR models?
      • Cheryl is using a branch in Steve's fork
      • MPAS+CCPP is still work in progress, target is end of June for running a CCPP suite in MPAS
      • Action item Dom: invite Dave and/or Michael to join us for one of the next meetings
    • How many of the current ccpp_prebuild capabilities are still missing
      • List of open issues should give us an answer
  • What metadata does ccpp_prebuild expect for DDTs etc, and what capgen?
    • Looks like the current ccpp_prebuild approach is clean and should be implemented in capgen
    • Action item Dom: Create an issue for DDTs and kinds (not discussed yet)
  • How to handle two suites (fast and slow physics) in one suite definition file
    • Not discussed today

Process for creating a master cross-lab standard name resource

  • Valuable input from Jimy (also speaking for Dave)
  • Andrew not yet ready to comment on proposed standard names and rules
  • Cheryl will create a tag of the current version before the "big PR" goes in
  • merging the "big PR" still requires discussion/acceptance with a bigger group, solving the b4b issues with SCM (Weiwei) and testing with the UFS (Xia)

Other business

  • Code management: insist on issues and pull request templates being filled out entirely, reject PRs that do not comply?
    • GFDL will do the same for the FV3 dycore (Lauren, Rusty)
  • Last week's meeting of Ligia and Dom with ACOM developers: proposed DDT for aerosols-radiation interaction should be added to CCPP framework to make it available to everyone, as extension/part of the already existing constituent work from Steve for NRL
