6. Homebrew Requests
Homebrew is basically the classes, subclasses, items, races, subraces, rules, etc. that you come up with outside the regular books made by Wizards of the Coast. For the purposes of this page, "Homebrew" encompasses that stuff and all other 3rd-party content. 3rd-Party Content is content put out by an actual company, other than WotC, to add to the 5e system. Some examples include Critical Role's Tal'Dorei Reborn book, Kobold Press's Tome of Beasts books, or MCDM's Strongholds and Followers. While those things are published in big, official looking products, they are not offical 5e content, as they are not made by the people that own D&D.
We get requests for Homebrew in the Community Pack every now and then. There are several reasons they are currently not being worked on, as outlined below. Requests for Homebrew in the Issues section of this GitHub will be closed. But they'll also be documented on this page, in the event that the opportunity or inclination arises for it to get done.
- There are very few contributors to the pack. That means we don't have the bandwidth to take on a lot of projects.
- We have to be careful with some 3rd-party content in the pack, as we cannot compromise LWD. They have deals with companies like Kobold Press to provide some of that company's 5e content as purchases in Hero Lab, and thus we cannot touch Kobold Press content ourselves. Because we're not privy to any deals that have or do exist, it's a riskier move to produce 3rd party stuff. Instead of just having to worry about WotC not liking the pack, we'd have to worry about many companies.
- As is the nature with 3rd-party content, far fewer users will be interested a particular thing. So it makes more sense to focus what efforts we can manage on the official 5e content and, to a lesser degree, Unearthed Arcana or Magic: The Gathering.
For the same reasons outlined above, updates to homebrew already in the pack, like the Blood Hunter, are deprioritized.
I'd love to tackle the Blood Hunter, for instance. It's probably the single most popular 3rd-party class in the community. But it's not easy to put into Hero Lab. So maybe I'll get to it eventually. The best way to get 3rd-party content made is to do it yourself. We have resources here to help, and can always use more hands with more knowledge. Even if you're not tackling something complicated like a whole new class with a whole new set of spellcasting rules, your work on simpler things will help free up everyone else's time.
All of this aside, there may be cases where something simple is quickly doable, or personally useful to someone else, and it gets done! It's entirely up to whoever is willing to program stuff and make it available to you or to the pack.
Here's the list of requested content. If there's something else you'd like to see added, the Issues page will be the best place to submit it. But don't be shocked when you're directed to this page, the "issue" is closed, and your request is added here.
